The 1971 New York Giants overcome the 1975 Minnesota Vikings in overtime.

Grandson taking the Giants in this matchup.

Giants have the ball first.

Bob Tucker wide open for Tarkenton

Can Bobby Bryant run him down?

Just ONE play and the Giants take a 7-0 lead.

Vikings need to answer.

Chuck Foreman has a hole to the left.

Pops wide open

after the first 5 yards defense gets to choose whether to adjust or not. If they choose to adjust, the offense gets to adjust also. Nixon chooses to adjust.

Foreman gets all the way to the New York 8-yard line.

Ed Marinaro trying to get to the edge.

Stopped at the 3.

Marinaro again, straight ahead.

Touchdown! Tie game, 7-7.

Giants second possession.

Nixon opts for the pass.

Thinks about a long one to Bob Tucker (he liked that opening TD 🙂 ).

Decides on Herrmann instead. Check out how far that corner is from the completion magnet…. It’s about to get interesting.

Herrmann beats the corner, but by inches!!! First down Giants.

Ron Johnson gets the call.

Breaks into the open.

Bryant is going to have to try and run him down.

Johnson goes to the house. Giants 14-Vikings 7.

Vikings have to answer or the game is over.

Vikings looking to pass.

Marinaro is open. Once again my need to practice passing is showing. Should be an EASY completion, but the need to go OVER that two engaged linemen results in an incompletion.

2nd down and the Giants plan to blitz.

Vikings going to the pass again.

Voight is open this time, but the sight line is so bad, Tarkenton misses another one.

3rd and 10, and the Vikings decide to go draw to Foreman.

Giants CB clips the back of his base and stops a breakaway run. Stopped at the 34.

1st down Vikings to keep their hopes alive.

1st and 10 Vikings.

Vikings going pass.

Voight is open, but with my struggles to throw over linemen, Tarkenton will scramble left.

Bad decision as Tom Longo gets the sack on the blitz. It sets up a 2nd down and forever.

Vikings trying to make a manageable 3rd down with a 2nd down run to Foreman.

He gets to the 32.

3rd down and 11.

Minnesota, knowing that the passing game is struggling, goes to Foreman again.

Forerman went the distance, and it’s 14-14 headed to overtime.

The Giants won the toss. Grandson goes to a very unique setup, including putting two of his DB’s (Williams and Lockhart) into the game on offense.

Short pass to Williams gets 9 yards.

2nd down sees a short pass to Ron Johnson.

Johnson gets to the 39. 1st down Giants.

He’s looking confident at this point 🙂

Could Bob Tucker do it again?

He makes the catch and is trying to score.

Hilgenberg gets him at the 6.

Tarkenton going to keep it up the middle.

Ballgame! Giants win 21-14.
